TC10 - Lecture 7

Corrosion management of carbon steel materials in sour gas

Summary

The lecture outlines sour gas degradation mechanisms and the challenges related to proactive measures to mitigate corrosion; corrosion monitoring, the use of lined carbon steel materials and some case histories. Also, the lecture covers the challenges related to establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) which are the key factors to prevent main events such as pinhole leaks.

In addition, the lecture will also cover the ON-PLOT activities which related to processing sour gas prior to sales or injection into the formation. Participants will gain an understanding of gas treating and gas dehydration facilities, proper material selection and integrity operating window (IOW)
